Bolder Boulder 10K & the Fun Funds Chronicles – part 2

Bolder Boulder! 6.2 miles in the sunshine

I ran the Bolder Boulder 10K on Monday in 1:03, a personal record. My goal was a sub-60, which I sincerely thought was a lofty goal. It’s really exciting to prove myself wrong! I shaved sixteen minutes off of my 2008 time with barely any training besides the light jogs I do after work. It’s amazing what your state of mind can do. I’m super proud of the friends that ran too! I’m looking at you, Kiri, Janet, Andrew. In related news, Happy National Running Day! I used to hate running but the idea of it had always appealed to me. Solo exercise? Free? Outside? Yes please. I had to get over the hump of forcing myself to keep a pace that wasn’t natural or comfortable and now it’s my favorite type of workout. Besides the fact that diabetes and heart disease run heavily in my family and a healthy lifestyle is key, I do my best thinking when my Brooks are pounding the pavement or trails and I’m always happiest right after a jog or run.

I am proud (and let’s be honest- smug) to report that I’m staying within the fun funds budget. I will admit that I’ve cheated slightly since a friend bought concert tickets from me at a significant price but I’ve already put away all of the money I wanted to for June and bills are current. My excuse? Memorial Day weekend! Friends! Food! Beer! The challenge continues when I get my next allowance on Friday.

Oh, I am definitely going to have to check out those links! Thanks for posting them! Now that I have steady employment, I have been using Mint.com to track everything.

I am running a 10k next month with my best friend! Already started training because I get winded after a mile and a half haha. Good job!

Slow and steady wins the race! I trained by jogging outside 3 to 4 times per week, 3 to 4 miles each time, a month beforehand. Which 10K is it?! Exciting.
